Our mission is to be a resource for our Madison County neighbors in need.

We organize our work around these principles:

Community, Compassion, Dependability, Dignity, Empathy, Responsiveness, Servanthood

Providing for residents for 33 years, Madison Emergency Services Association (MESA) aims to help wherever there is need in the town and greater community of Madison County, Virginia. MESA is a privately funded and run organization that began in 1982 to provide for those in need in the county.  Today, that passion for community still shines through at MESA.  The neediest community members as well as any Madison County resident experiencing a life emergency or temporary crisis, has a place to turn.

Our assistance is primarily broken down into three areas.  Financial, food and clothing, and shelter.  Financial assistance is provided on an as needed, case by cases basis and can include help with electric bills, rent, fuel, etc.  Food can be provided through our food pantry and clothing can be provided with a voucher for our thrift shop.  Through Barbara’s House, MESA can provide transitional housing for five families at a time, as well as a mentoring program, for those facing homelessness.

MESA’s programs and services are provided by a small dedicated staff and passionate volunteers, funded exclusively through donations, thrift shop sales, and grants.  The generosity and participation of the community are what makes it possible for MESA to continue its mission.
